We’ll start by looking at the company’s history and culture before moving on to an analysis of their of hiring process and benefits information. Let’s dive in and find out what they have to offer!
The Company’s Culture & History
Yogurtland has stores in twenty states of the United States and locations in several other countries as well. The company has been steadily growing over the years, with annual revenue in excess of $130 million and counting.
Each location costs between $385,000 and $435,200 to build. The chain’s popularity comes from their format which allows customers to serve themselves. The prices are also extremely competitive compared to other companies.
The brand is also famous for their “Tokidoki” character, which appears on the collectible spoons given with each purchase. At any given time, there are up to sixteen flavors of soft-serve frozen yogurt available at each location.
Customers can utilize machines to mix and match flavors as they see fit. There are also 33 toppings available ranging from Oreo crumbles, chocolate chips, fresh-cut fruit, nuts, and syrups. The company also offers low-fat and non-fat flavors as well.
Each of the locations attempts to offer at least one tart flavor, and one dairy-free flavor. Some of the flavors are also gluten free to cater to different dietary needs. Prices are done by the ounce, with prices ranging from 30-49 cents per ounce.
The current slogan for Yogurtland is “get real,” which refers to the fresh and natural toppings used, along with real milk in the yogurt they serve. The company owns its own dairy where they make the yogurt themselves.
The milk used in the production of the company’s frozen yogurt is all sourced from California cows which are hormone and antibiotic free. The is then then pasteurized in the dairy and quality checked. Instead of buying their flavor bases from vendors, they are made in the same dairy.
These include the sweet, tart, and sorbet flavors they create. This all ties back to an attitude of control over the flavor and creation of their yogurts. A flavorologist at Yogurtland named Nirupama said in a company blog post:
“When you buy the base from a vendor instead of making it yourself, you don’t get the same flavor every time and it’s really hard to work with. The way we do things at Yogurtland means we get to control the flavor 100% in our lab.”
At the Yogurtland dairy, they also produce live and active cultures that are added to the yogurt. These aid in the creation of the yogurt and offer health benefits as well. The company’s history is relatively recent. It was founded in 2006 by Phillip Chang who is also the CEO and president of the company.
The first Yogurtland location was in Fullerton, California. In December 2014, there were over 300 locations in the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Australia, Guam, UAE, and Thailand. By 2015, the company had plans to expand to over 550 locations.
In January of 2014, the company opened it’s first store in the Middle East at the Dubai Mall in the UAE. This was followed by the first location opening in Bangkok, Thailand which opened in December of that year.
