Careers & Employment at Wendy’s

I’m not afraid to admit it, I know we all have our favorites, but Wendy’s is by far my favorite fast food restaurant. Everything there is amazing, from the menu, atmosphere, to the friendliness of the staff. I have one down the street from where I live, and I always joke that it’s the nicest location in the whole world.

The truth is, they all are great, and it comes down to the way the company is run. Fill out a Wendy’s application and see for yourself, because it truly is a great company.  In a world where everyone is so obsessed with being new and different, Wendy’s kept things simple and refined the perfection within the basic form of the hamburger.

Their old fashioned approach is what makes them stand out, and the simplicity of their menu items leaves opportunity for them to improve on an already great design. It’s really a shame that the founder, Dave Thomas, is no longer with us. Wherever he is now though, I know he’s happy with the way his company has stood the test of time, never sacrificing their values, or what made them great.

Why Work Here?

Oh sorry, that’s a typo. It’s supposed to say “why not work here?” Oh, you want convincing, well I can do that. This beautiful chain of classic burger restaurants opened its first location in 1969. A man named David Thomas started the company in Columbus, Ohio. It was called, Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers. The name came from his fourth child named Melinda Lou “Wendy” Thomas.

This approach took the concept of square burgers, not frozen or mass produced, but made to order with high quality ingredients and always fresh for the customer. Quality was the focus, and the drive. Dave was so passionate about the quality that he put it right on the logo with the phrase, “Quality is our Recipe.”

It’s not just about the classic style freshly made burgers though. Wendy’s is also known for their iconic “Frosty” milkshakes. There’s just something so incredibly satisfying about a hearty fresh burger, and a chocolate Frosty to go with it. It’s a match made in heaven, I assure you. And, if you’re absolutely insane like my aunt, you can dip your fries in the Frosty. Okay, so it’s not that bad, but still, who got that idea?

Also can we talk about that value menu for a second? With a selection of menu items priced at or just above a dollar, you can be tight on cash and still enjoy one of the many signature items on the menu. A dollar and some change will net you the iconic Jr. Bacon cheeseburger, and if you’re in more of the chicken mood, they have a Crispy Chicken sandwich on that same price tier.

Working at Wendy’s is about more than just serving great food though. It’s the culture of the company that tastes even better than their signature “Baconator” which is saying something. Team members work as a cohesive whole, delivering consistent quality in all aspects of the business. It all comes together with a spirit of action, always respecting one another and giving back to the community.

So, if the quality food, the great people, and the dedication to classic methods of making burgers didn’t win you over, let me tell you about some of the foundations that Wendy’s sponsors. Oh yeah, that’s right, I’m going right for the heart strings. Let’s start out with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Helping kids find homes by providing free information and resources for prospective parents. I saw that tear, you can deny it all you want, but it was there. This is just one of the many charities that the company sponsors on a consistent basis, or one they’ve started themselves. Okay, here’s a tissue. Let’s talk about how you can apply to Wendy’s and join this beautiful team.

Wendy’s Application Online

The careers page of the Wendy’s website is as illustrious and attractive as their locations and food. All kinds of information is laid out across the page, with a job search bar that you can use to find the position you’re looking for. With over six thousand locations, you have plenty of options to choose from. Not to mention that the number of employees is currently at 57,000 and growing!

When you’re online, you can find open positions and apply right then and there, so it’s nice and easy. Don’t wait around for a call though, head into the store and introduce yourself to the manager or owner of the franchise. In some cases, you may receive a call within a few hours after you’ve applied, so have that phone ready. It all depends on how many people have applied lately, so if you don’t hear from them right away, stop in and introduce yourself to get your name higher on the list.

When I say follow-up, it’s a once or twice type of thing. Don’t be there every day, ordering a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from the value menu as an excuse to check in on your employment forms for the tenth time. Follow-up, make it count, and then let fate take the wheel. You don’t want to annoy them, but you do want to show enthusiasm so just remember that balance.

Direct Competitors

There’s no right way to make a hamburger. Feel around for other opportunities to apply for, like McDonald’s for example. If you’re more into having it your way, apply to Burger King. Maybe you’ve just decided to go off the deep end, and change it up entirely. Okay, apply to Taco Bell then and go all tex-mex, you wild thing, you!

Common Positions and Benefits

Like most fast food restaurants, Wendy’s offers entry-level positions where training is provided. As a Team member, you can work full-time or part-time. In this position, you will assist customers, and prepare orders. In addition, you will also keep the dining areas stocked and clean, to keep up the image of the company.

With hard work, some experience, and developing leadership skills, you can grow into a manager position with Wendy’s and jumpstart a career from there. If you already possess the skills to be a manager, you can find employment forms for those positions as well on the website.

Now, you’re probably wondering what kind of perks and benefits you get for working at Wendy’s. Well, besides working in the best fast food restaurant on the planet (in my humble opinion) you also enjoy a number of benefits. Some of these begin right away, while others come with tenure.

Instant Benefits Upon Hire:
