Restaurants are unique for a number of reasons, the biggest of which is their unique atmospheres. When you go to restaurant, you are treated like royalty, and that’s what makes them so popular. For a brief moment, people feel important and appreciated for their company. They are also the most popular destinations for couples looking to have a nice date.

You order the food and it’s brought to you moments later. When your drink runs dry, someone comes to fill it again. Restaurant jobs go beyond these tasks though; there are plenty of different options to grow within the company. Restaurants are classified by the type of food they offer, everything from sushi, to seafood, and steak, to the iconic buffets. If you have a preferred type of food, working around it will allow that passion to seep through into your work.

There is also the question of working in an informal or formal type of establishment. Working in a casual environment will be more relaxed; while working in a luxury restaurant will have you serving customers dressed in formal wear and will possess high expectations from their staff.

Restaurant & Fine Dining Jobs: Careers and Employment Forms

Restaurants come in so many varieties, themes, and styles. You can find just about any kind of food and style of service to match your interests. With plenty of part-time jobs available, these establishments can offer some fantastic entry level positions to those interested in starting a career. Beyond working on the floor, there are also job options for bartenders, chefs, and line cooks.

Some great companies to apply for include Applebee’s, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, and Olive Garden. These are great companies to work for who will offer plenty of growth in your career. Below are some examples of positions you can apply for:

1. Busser/Dishwasher Jobs

These are both great entry-level positions that won’t require an exorbitant amount of training. As a dishwasher, you will be responsible for cleaning and drying the dishes that customers have used, so they can be recycled and used once more.

As a busser, or busboy as it’s sometimes referred to, you will be responsible for the cleanliness of the main dining area. As customers leave, you will collect the dirty dishes and clean the table for the next group of customers.

2. Waiter/Waitress Jobs

The gears that keep everything turning, as a waiter or waitress you will be the one who takes orders, brings the food to customers, and solves any and all issues that may arise. This job can be intense because you will be dealing with a countless number of people each day. On that note, customers commonly leave additional money in the form of tips to reward your high quality service.

While the standard wage for a waiter or waitress job isn’t high, if you’re good with people, you can make a ludicrous amount of money off of your tips alone. If you have a great personality and a lot of energy, this is the job for you.

3. Chefs/Cook jobs

Every restaurant lives and dies by the quality of its food. Even more importantly, is the uniqueness of the menu. Each establishment will have its own selection of menu items to make it stand out.

As a chef or cook, you will be the one to bring these concepts to life in the form of edible delicacies. Experience here will usually be required and for higher positions you will need professional training. While very hectic, being a head chef for a restaurant can be an incredibly lucrative career.

Everyone from bussers, waiters and waitresses, to chefs can all find ways to grow and move up in the company they work for.
