I carry a heavy burden, I really do. You see, I have a nasty allergy to fish, shellfish, and crustaceans; anything that comes from the sea really. Especially jellyfish, those things always get me when I go to the beach, and no, I don’t eat them, that’s gross. Despite this allergy, before I developed it, I used to love fish and seafood. I miss it every day. Luckily, Red Lobster serves more than just seafood. Still, it’s the principle of the matter.

For all you lucky fish eaters out there, let’s get you started on an online Red Lobster application. I may not be able to serve it, eat it, or even touch it, but maybe I can live vicariously through you. Or maybe someone will just invent the Matrix and I can just experience a simulation of it, sans swelling and lack of breathing.

A History & Overview of the Company

Red Lobster is an American casual dining restaurant chain headquartered in Orlando, Florida. They also happen to make the best damn cheesy biscuits that money can buy, and those suckers come free with your meal! Well, I just want to present them with the “Best Restaurant Ever” award right here and now, because yes. The chain was part of Darden Restaurants; however ownership of the restaurant was sold to Golden Gate Capital for a cool $2.1 billion in July of 2014.

Don’t call it a comeback though; they’ve been here for years. The company started in March of 1968, founded by Bill Darden and Charley Woodsby. The original slogan was “A Harbor for Seafood Lovers.” Ah, very nice, fishing reference for the win. The first location was in Lakeland, Florida and it spread across the southeast as time went on. In the 1980’s things got real, and it entered Canada after the company was acquired by General Mills.

The company still keeps between twenty-five and thirty locations active in Canada, but the chain never really exploded up there. In 1995, the company became part of Darden Restaurants Inc. At this point General Mills decided to make Darden a publically traded corporation. Just as the name suggests, Red Lobster serves various types of seafood: lobster, shrimp, fish, and squid. The menu does offer other options like steak and chicken, but the signature dishes, beyond the cheesy biscuits, are the seafood selections.

WHY CAN’T I EAT FISH?! Oh right, because I’m allergic. Man, this sounds like a great place to work.
