Many of the post-frame building customers that Menard worked with asked about purchasing lumber products, so like any good businessman, he saw the demand and opened the first Menards Cashway Lumber. In 1969, manufacturing plants started to pop up in Eau Claire. Here he could manufacture trusses, lumber, boards, pre-hung doors, steel, and nails. Today there are a total of four distribution centers.
For forty years, John Menard Jr.’s brother Larry served as the Operations manager, but in 2009 he retired. His son Charlie served as the COO until 2007, at which point he became manager of the Eau Claire Distribution center.
