They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but they also say that an apple a day will keep the doctor away. I’m not sure how I feel about the second one, but then again, I usually don’t eat an apple every day. I agree with the breakfast statement, mostly because I absolutely love pancakes. Now I bet one of those a day will do something to do, but I usually like to keep them at arm’s length and enjoy them on occasion.
Enter the International House of Pancakes or IHOP as it is better known. It’s a good thing too, because I wouldn’t want to be writing that entire title out some forty odd times throughout this article. The pancakes are ready people, and now that you’re ready for the pancakes, let’s discuss your IHOP application, and how you can join these providers of the most perfect of breakfast foods.
A Company History & Overview
I had this thought as I was doing research for this article: “Where did pancakes come from?” After trying desperately to read ancient Greek, I finally found something I could understand. Turns out these beautiful creations started in the fifth century BC, mentioned in the poetic works of Cratinus and Magnes, back then they were called Tagenites, which is just, I mean, wow. That’s an epic name for pancakes.
I really wish I could tell you that IHOP was around back then on the forefront of pancake innovation. I wanted to make a joke about how it was called IHOPICUS back then, and how they served pancakes to the likes of Zeus and Ares. Sadly, no, but the company did begin back in 1958 when Jerry Lapin, Al Lapin, and Albert Kallis founded the restaurant.
Today, IHOP is a United States based restaurant chain that specializes in breakfast foods. This focus extends beyond just pancakes and into things like French toast and omelets. The company also offers lunch and dinner items, which seems weird, but seeing as how most locations are open twenty-four hours a day, and seven days a week, you can be there for all manner of reasons beyond breakfast.
That being said, breakfast at night is a beautiful thing, and many people will stop by a local IHOP just to satisfy that urge for bacon, eggs, and pancakes at two in the morning. The company is very engaged in both its employees and its community as well. With great benefits, and advancement opportunities for hard working employees, there are plenty of reasons to start a career here.
Part-time and entry-level positions are always available for people with all levels of restaurant experience. There is also an element of social networking, where the company posts pictures uploaded to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Customers can snap photos and apply a company chosen hashtag to be featured on the corporate website. All of this and you can have it once you’ve finished your IHOP restaurant application.
IHOP Application Online
First thing’s first: you need to be sixteen to apply for a job at IHOP. Go ahead and check, I’ll wait. Birth certificate, driver’s license, or calling your mom and asking her will all work. Me personally, I just round to the nearest five, typically down to make things easier. Once we’ve confirmed your age, we can move on.
Like most stories, this one starts on the IHOP careers page of the website. Front and center, on this page, you’re going to see the company’s values and vision. It’s very important to read this through. This affords you a chance to learn quite a bit about the company, and this knowledge will make you stand out from the rest.
The concepts are as follows:
- Integrity: We do the right thing; we are committed to the highest ethical standards.
- Excellence: We expect the best from ourselves and each other.
- Innovation: We find creative, new ways to delight our guests.
- Accountability: We do what we say we will do. We are responsible for our actions.
- Inclusion: We respect and value diversity, we benefit from many points of view.
- Trust: We collaborate and build trust through open, honest communication.
- Community: We make a difference in the neighborhoods and communities we serve.
So just remember I.E.I.A.I.T.C and you’ll be fine. On second thought, I don’t think they meant it to be an acronym so disregard that, unless you can somehow remember that. On this page, you can select the “IHOP Careers” option which takes you to open job positions throughout the company. Some locations are independent franchises, so keep this in mind as you may need to visit those once you’ve applied.
This single page gives you a variety of options. You can browse all open positions with various IHOP locations and apply, or you can narrow it down by utilizing the search option and apply that way. In addition, you can view any IHOP online applications you’ve submitted, and submit your resume. Any edits you need to make on your profile can be done here as well, like I said, pretty comprehensive.
Breakfast is more than just a meal. It’s a new start, a celebration of another day. Separated it literally says “Break” and fast”.
