Golden Corral Employment Options

Buffets are intimidating, not at first, but when you get your plate and settle into your table, it all hits you like a tidal wave of varied food options. How can you possibly try everything, and what if you don’t like something? Should you do salad, or skip to the main course? You have to leave room for dessert; we’re not animals after all. Me? I usually scope the place out, walking with my plate down low and my eyes constantly shifting. I probably look incredibly weird, now that I think about it.

How about working in a buffet though? All the tips, none of the menus. Now time to find out how we can get you a Golden Corral application and what needs to happen so you can join this ever growing and fast moving team of individuals.

Company History & Overview

Neither golden, nor a traditional corral, Golden Corral is an American family-style restaurant chain serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the form of a massive buffet and grill. There are numerous hot and cold dishes, a carving station, and the iconic Brass Bell Bakery. Oh Lawd, those dinner rolls they have there, I need one right now. Sorry, off track.

Golden Corral is a privately held company headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina and currently has locations in forty-one states. It all started in the great golden city of El Dorado, on a little corral in the upper eastern side of the fabled city. Get it; it’s literally a golden corral. Okay fine, the real story starts in 1971 when James Maynard and William F. Carl Gavone Siamese conceived the idea that became Golden Corral after several unsuccessful tries at acquiring franchises from other companies.

Golden Corral was incorporated in 1972 and the first location opened on January 3rd, 1973 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Just like the buffet inside, the company has grown to offer a lot of location options. There are 500 across the United States with about 100 of them being company-owned. The rest are franchised stores. The gross sales of the chain are $1.53 billion.

It’s about more than seventeen kinds of dessert though. Golden Corral also helps out in philanthropic efforts through charitable giving. Between 2001 and 2013, to support Veterans Day, the restaurant chain served more than 4.1 million free meals to active duty and retired military personnel. They also raised over $8.8 million for disabled veterans through the company’s Military Appreciation Monday.

Golden Corral also sponsors Camp Corral which is a free summer camp for children of wounded, disabled, or fallen military service members. Since the founding of the summer camp, it has grown to twenty locations in sixteen states and has served over 4,000 children. Any child from a military family is eligible for the free summer camp.

So we know everything about the company, but we still don’t know who they are. What’s their culture, how do they conduct business? By visiting the culture page of the company website, you can see some great information about Golden Corral as a company. The restaurant chain was voted #1 in a grill-buffet segment for fourteen years by Restaurant News. They want to continue being the best, which means they need people with talent, commitment, and passion like yourself.

Golden Corral values diversity amongst the employees of each location and of the guests who visit their restaurant. The company seeks to provide an environment that allows for equal success and opportunity for each and every person. The company’s vision reads as follows:

“To be the leader in the family restaurant segment by making pleasurable dining affordable for every guest, at every restaurant, every day.”

There you have it, a company that wants both its employees and its guests to feel welcome, and bring them enough types of food to make their head spin. Bring on the buffet I say.

Direct Competitors

Not many buffets left out there nowadays. That being said, you can always find great restaurant chains like this one to work for. Apply to Olive Garden and bring out the Italian in all of us. Equally fancy, but a little more seaside is Red Lobster, which is a great place to work. Don’t forget Waffle House, which is open every hour of every day.

Golden Corral Application Online

Golden Corral has a streamlined and easy to use hiring process that begins on the careers page of the company website. Once you’ve filled out the forms, you’ll have an opportunity to submit a resume, and your availability. Those of you who have read enough of my articles know that this subject always gets a nice chunk of attention.

  1. Your Resume

Alright, when you are asked to present a resume, or it even becomes an option, you jump on that like white on rice, understand? I don’t care if your work experience only encompasses mowing your neighbor’s lawn a couple of time in the summer of ‘98, you put together a resume. If my words are coming across like an overbearing mother, then good because this is important. A resume, no matter how long or short it is, shows that you have skills and you’re proud of them.

More than that, it shows effort beyond the bare minimum. If you took the extra time to put together a nice, presentable resume, then you really care about getting the job. Standing out is the name of the game here folks, so don’t forget this crucial element.

  1. Availability

Hmm, I love this one because I know some of you are shaking your heads right now thinking “I don’t want to work weekends, so I’ll just tell them I can’t.” Well, aren’t you clever? Let’s try that again. You’re going to work whenever you possibly can. If you’re not in the hospital, in school, or working another job, then you’re open to work at Golden Corral. Relax, they’re not going to make you work seven day weeks, but if you give them plenty of days to work with, you will be seen as a viable asset.

More importantly, you will be seen as someone they can depend on. Not to mention more hours equals more money, so give them something to work with, and they in turn will shower you with gifts of the paycheck variety.
