Another purchase of the Birmingham, Alabama based Bruno’s Supermarkets was incorporated into the main brand in 2001.

The company invested into new store designs in 2003, rearranging the layout to bring in more high-end customers. This gave rise to the concept of Super BI-LO, a larger variation of their store layout with healthier foods, specialty items, and organic options. This new layout was chosen to be used in several new locations, and in remodeled stores near affluent neighborhoods.

Throughout 2004 and 2005, the company removed its private label and replaced it with new packaging and a new name: “Southern Home.” Ahold sold the BI-LO brand to Lone Star Funds in 2005. The new owners sold 104 locations in order to focus on renovating and building new stores in better areas.

On December 19, 2011, BI-LO announced that it would merge with Winn-Dixie to create a total organization of 690 grocery stores and 63,000 employees. With locations in eight states, BI-LO purchased Winn-Dixie for $530 million in the agreement that it will keep its name and become a subsidiary.

The new company was moved to the Winn-Dixie headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. 3. Management 

There are several levels of management at BI-LO. The team consists of team leaders, department managers, assistant store managers, and a overall store manager.
